CMS student-athletes attended the annual Heart of a Champion event at the Carolinas Health Care Airport Training Center on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Along with a free sport-specific health screening, participants also received a free heart screening. This program is designed to educate student-athletes about their health and ways they can continue to pursue healthy living. We cannot thank Carolinas Health Care enough for providing this opportunity to our student-athletes and for continuing to show care to local high schools and their families.
Carolinas Health Care explains, "The program is unique because of the heart screenings, where all student athletes receive an electrocardiogram (EKG), which traces the heart's electrical activity. A heart screening is performed to increase the chance of detecting a heart problem that could affect an athlete's ability to participate in sports safely."
Each student-athlete receives a review of their medical history, a general sports screening for North Carolina and South Carolina, Electrocardiogram (EKG), Echocardiogram (ECHO) (if needed), Orthopedic screening (musculoskeletal exam), vision exam, and access to a registered dietitian.
Thank you, again, to Carolinas Health Care for your continued support of CMS Athletics!
