The third annual OrthoCarolina Sports Medicine Center Coaches Symposium was held on Monday, October 30 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC. The event brought together Orthopedics, Strength Training, and Sports Nutrition professionals in an effort to educate and share their knowledge with the coaches and sports staff at CMS.
Dr. Durham Weeks, Sports Medicine, and Injuries spoke on the negative effects of improper warm-up and training on overuse injuries. CMS coaches were able to see images from a real surgery! They were taught to look out for symptoms of overuse injuries and strategies for prevention.
Jason Boudrie specializes in Strength Training and Coaching. He spoke to the CMS sports staff about how to create an effective workout regimen for their student-athletes without the weight room.
Last to speak was Alicia Fogarty. She presented information about nutrition and the best pre-game and post-game eating habits. CMS coaches were given helpful advice as to how they can make sure their student-athletes are receiving enough nourishment throughout the day.
