AK Sports Report (May 6-11)

AK SPORTS REPORT

(May 6-11, 2019)

The weather has definitely heated up, and with it so has NCHSAA post-season competition.  The regular season has ended for all of our Spring Sports, so the week ahead brings some great State Playoff action.  Congrats to our AK Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams, who both brought home SoMeck 7 Conference Championships to join our Men’s Tennis and Men’s Golf teams this Spring!  Good luck to all our Knights in the post-season this week!  GO KNIGHTS!  PROTECT THE CASTLE!

 

SPRING SPORTS

  • BASEBALLAK Baseball advanced to the Finals of the SoMeck 7 Conference Tournament after two dominating victories, including the Semi-Finals over South Meck.  The Knights struggled to get things going in the Championship Game, falling to rival Providence for the Championship.  The Knights will enter the NCHSAA State Playoffs with a 19-8 overall record and as the #3 Seed from the SoMeck 7.  They will find out their 1st Round matchup once brackets are released on Monday.  Good luck men!

NCHSAA State Playoffs (brackets released Monday – 5/6/19):

  • 5/7 or 5/8 – 1st Round vs. TBD @ TBD (7:00 PM)
  • 5/10 or 5/11 – 2nd Round vs. TBD @ TBD (7:00 PM)

 

  • SOFTBALL: AK Softball fell in the Semi-Finals of the SoMeck 7 Conference Tournament to eventuals Champion Olympic this past week.  The Lady Knights now await to see where they will play in the 1st Round of the NCHSAA State Playoffs, as brackets will be released on Monday.  They enter the State Playoffs with a 15-6 overall record and as the #3 Seed from the SoMeck 7.  Good luck ladies!

  • 5/7 or 5/8 – 1st Round vs. TBD @ TBD (7:00 PM)
  • 5/10 or 5/11 – 2nd Round vs. TBD @ TBD (7:00 PM)

 

  • WOMEN’S SOCCER:  AK Women’s Soccer went 2-1 in the final week of the regular season to finish with a 14-4-3 overall record and 9-3 in the SoMeck 7 Conference, finishing in a tie for 2nd Place.  Unfortunately, the Lady Knights lost the draw for the conference tiebreak and will enter the NCHSAA State Playoffs as the #3 Seed from the SoMeck 7.  They too await to see their 1st Round opponent when brackets are released on Monday.  Best of luck ladies!

  • MEN’S LACROSSE: AK Men’s Lacrosse started off the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs with a destruction of Grimsley in the 1st Round at Home this past Friday.  The Knights will host again in Round 2 on Tuesday against Reagan…..let’s get a big crowd at THE CASTLE to support M-LAX!

NCHSAA State Playoffs:

  • 5/7 – 2nd Round @ Home vs. Reagan (7:00 PM)
  • 5/10 – 3rd Round @ Home vs. TBD (7:00 PM)

 

  • WOMEN’S LACROSSE: AK Women’s Lacrosse saw their season come to an end in the NCHSAA State Playoffs, falling to a strong Lake Norman squad on the road this past Friday after receiving a BYE earlier in the week.  Still, a solid season for the Lady Knights with much to be proud of……great job ladies!
    • SEASON COMPLETE

 

  • MEN’S GOLF: AK Men’s Golf began post-season play with a dominating 31-stroke victory in the SoMeck 7 Conference Tournament this past Wednesday!  The Knights now look for a strong showing in the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Tournament this Tuesday at Statesville C.C. in hopes of qualifying for the State Tournament.  Keep grinding it out on the course men!
    • 5/7 – NCHSAA 4A West Regional Tournament @ Statesville C.C. (8:30 AM)

 

  • MEN’S TENNIS: AK Men’s Tennis opened up play in the Dual Team State Playoffs with a 6-0 victory over East Meck in Round 1.  The Knights take to the road for Round 2 at South Caldwell on Tuesday.  Also this past week, AK hosted the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Tournament.  Congrats to Jonathan Lee (3rd Place) and Noah Hathout (4th Place) on both qualifying for the State Tournament this coming weekend!  Good luck for another great week on the courts Knights!
    • 5/7 – 2nd Round Dual Team State Playoffs @ South Caldwell (4:00 PM)
    • 5/10 – Day 1 of NCHSAA 4A State Tournament @ Millbrook Exchange Park, Raleigh (9:00 AM)
    • 5/11 – Day 2 of NCHSAA 4A State Tournament @ Millbrook Exchange Park, Raleigh (9:00 AM)

 

  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD:  AK Track & Field had a great week, sweeping the SoMeck 7 Conference Championship Meet and bringing home conference titles for both the Men’s and Women’s Programs!!  Great job by all the AK student-athletes, coaches and special congrats to Amber Jackson on being named the Female Field Athlete of the Year.  Final results have not been posted on NC Milesplit yet to recognize all our individual Conference Champions.  Next up, the Knights will compete in the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Championship Meet at Providence this Saturday.  Good luck to all Knights competing…..looking for some great State Qualifying performances!

  • 2019 Heart of a Champion Day
    • Atrium Health will once again be sponsoring the annual Heart of a Champion Day for all CMS High School students currently enrolled, providing a comprehensive Sports Physical free of charge!
      • When? – Saturday, June 1st
      • Where? – The site is at an auxiliary service building at the airport, but transportation is provided at the school by activity bus and all participants are required to take the bus.
