AK SPORTS REPORT

(August 19-24, 2019)

Here we go AK!  The 2019-2020 Athletic Year begins this week, as our Fall Sports open regular season play.  Good luck to all our Fall student-athletes, coaches, and parents during the upcoming season!  Our Knights have put in a lot of hard work and preparation this pre-season….can’t wait to cheer them on and watch them COMPETE!

In this weekly newsletter, you will find the upcoming weekly schedule for all of our in-season sports as well as a recap of the previous week.  Also, make sure to review the Important News and Announcements section for other special updates throughout the year.  GO KNIGHTS!  PROTECT THE CASTLE!

FALL SPORTS

  • FOOTBALL:  AK Football kicks off the regular season against non-conference opponent Weddington this week.  JV gets things started @ Home on Thursday before Varsity travels to Weddington for a tough opening road test.  Good luck men!
    • 8/22 – JV @ Home vs. Weddington (6:00 PM)
    • 8/23 – Varsity @ Weddington (7:30 PM)

 

  • VOLLEYBALLAK Volleyball opens their season with a non-conference match-up on the road at Weddington, followed by the annual Best of the Best Tournament at Sports Connection over the weekend.  Have a great first week Lady Knights!
    • 8/20 – @ Weddington
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM
    • 8/23 – Best of the Best Tournament (Varsity) @ Sports Connection (TBA)
    • 8/24 – Best of the Best Tournament (Varsity) @ Sports Connection (TBA)

 

  • MEN’S SOCCERAK Men’s Soccer concluded their pre-season with a strong showing at the Foard Friendlies scrimmage jamboree over the weekend and now look to start the regular season off on the right foot.  It will be a busy opening week, w/ three non-conference opponents on the schedule, including a big Home opener against Weddington on Tuesday.  Let’s go Knights!

  • WOMEN’S TENNISAK Women’s Tennis opens their season with a busy week @ Home, including jumping right into SoMeck 7 Conference play w/ two conference opponents.  Good luck on the courts ladies!
    • 8/20 – @ Home vs. South Meck (4:00 PM)
    • 8/21 – @ Home vs. Weddington (4:00 PM)
    • 8/22 – @ Home vs. Harding (4:00 PM)

 

  • WOMEN’S GOLF:  AK Women’s Golf begins the season with two non-conference matches in the opening week.  Good luck to our Lady Knight golfers posting some low numbers this week!
    • 8/20 – Match vs. Charlotte Catholic @ Ballantyne C.C. (1:00 PM)
    • 8/22 – Match vs. Hickory Ridge @ Red Bridge G.C. (3:00 PM)

 

  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY:  AK Cross Country held their annual Knight Run this past Friday night and had a great event!  The Men’s and Women’s teams get into their first meet action this coming Saturday and are ready to put up some great early season times!
    • 8/24 – Men @ Western NC Cross Country Carnival (Jackson Park – Hendersonville, NC)
    • 8/24 – Women @ Providence Invitational (McAlpine Creek Park)

    • For the 10th consecutive year, the Ardrey Kell Knights earned the prestigious NCHSAA Wells Fargo Conference Cup, recognizing the best overall athletic program in the SoMeck 7 Conference during the 2018-2019 school year.Congratulations to all our Knight student-athletes, our phenomenal coaching staff, supportive AK administration, and amazing parents for this great accomplishment!Time to start defending for Cup #11!
