CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 8, 2019) - National Amateur Sports (NAS), a sports marketing and media company focused on enhancing high school athletic programs, has announced a new, local initiative to help promote upward mobility in Charlotte, N.C. After years of experience in the high school sports space, NAS sees an opportunity to help level the playing field and inspire workforce development in our community.
The R.I.S.E (Readiness in Sport Education) program powered by OrthoCarolina is designed to introduce students to potential careers within the sports marketing and media industry. Through experiential learning opportunities and engaging community events, the program offers a unique avenue for educational growth by helping students create a portfolio they can use to apply to college or find employment after graduation.
“Part of our mission at NAS has always been to enhance educational opportunities for high school students interested in working in the sports industry,” explained Chris Barry, Director of R.I.S.E. “And, there’s no better way to get them involved than teaching them how to create digital content and analyze data for the benefit of their high school sports teams. We can’t wait to work with these students, enhance their skills, and connect them with industry professionals along the way.”
Many Charlotte-Mecklenburg high schools are currently represented in the R.I.S.E. program, and we intend to have all Charlotte-Mecklenburg high schools represented by the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Each week students are asked to attend sporting events on their high school campus and capture the action. From taking photos to analyzing stats or producing highlight videos, the curriculum is student centric. All their work will be published on the CMS Athletics Website and Twitter Account.
NAS has also engaged R.I.S.E. students at several community events. At the 2019 Charlotte Kickoff Night students were granted sideline access to capture photos and videos throughout the two-game event. In addition, the OrthoCarolina Research Institute invited the R.I.S.E. program to attend their Painful Truth: What Students Need to Know About the Opioid Crisis event in September where two R.I.S.E. students got the chance to interview former Panthers football player, Muhsin Muhammad, about his advice for high school students.

OrthoCarolina has been a community partner of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Athletics for six years. Their continued support of new initiatives like the R.I.S.E. program emphasizes their dedication to supporting this diverse community of students, athletes, and families.
