AK Sports Report (April 5-10)

By Brian Knab, 04/04/21, 8:30PM EDT

(April 5-10, 2021)

Spring Break has finally made it here!  Although the break in school work is much needed, we are excited for a big week of athletic action ahead this week.  The Knights will be Home for some major matchups in SoMeck 7 Conference play this week, including Men’s Tennis, Women’s Soccer, Softball, and Football.  Enjoy the break from school AK, but get over to The Castle in the evening time to support your Knights!  Also, please be sure to see below our NCHSAA Scholar-Athlete information from 1st Semester……we are not only proud of our AK student-athletes on the field/court/pool/course, but also always in the classroom!

  • FOOTBALL:  AK Football took the long road trip to A.C. Reynolds for their only non-conference game this past week, shutting out the previously undefeated Rockets 23-0.  The Knights improved to 5-1 overall and head into the final week of the regular season 4-1 in SoMeck 7 Conference play.  The regular season finale is a huge one, as rival and undefeated Providence comes to THE CASTLE with Conference Title and State Playoff implications on the line.  We need a big crowd on Friday night to support our Knights!
    • 4/8 – JV @ Providence (6:00 PM)
    • 4/9 – Varsity @ Home vs. Providence (7:00 PM)

  • WOMEN’S SOCCER:  AK Women’s Soccer took care of business this past week with two Home victories over Berry and Olympic in a resumption of their previously postponed game.  The Lady Knights stand at 3-0-1 in SoMeck 7 Conference play going into a huge upcoming week.  AK will host conference rivals Providence and South Meck on the Home turf looking to take control in the conference title race.  Let’s Go Lady Knights!
    • 4/6 – @ Home vs. Providence
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM
    • 4/8 – @ Home vs. South Meck
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM

  • SOFTBALL:  AK Softball split their two games this past week, earning a Senior Night victory over Berry to even their SoMeck 7 Conference record at 1-1 before losing a non-conference game against Union Academy by a 3-2 score after a great 7th inning rally.  The Lady Knights have one big Home game on the schedule this week against rival Providence, as South Meck has forfeited the other scheduled Home game.  Good luck this week ladies!
    • 4/6 – @ Home vs. Providence
      • JV – 4:00 PM
      • Varsity – 5:30 PM

  • MEN’S TENNIS:  AK Men’s Tennis moved to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in SoMeck 7 Conference play after a 9-0 victory over Berry on Senior Night.  The Knights followed that up with a big time 6-3 win over Myers Park in a top non-conference matchup in the Region.  A big week lies ahead at The Castle Courts, as AK will host Providence and South Meck in two big Home conference matches.  Keep it rolling men!
    • 4/6 – @ Home vs. Providence (4:00 PM)
    • 4/8 – @ Home vs. South Meck (4:00 PM)

  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S GOLF:  AK Men’s & Women’s Golf ran into some weather issues this past week, but the Lady Knights were able to stay perfect on the season at 5-0 with another convincing win over Providence.  Both teams will resume match play when we return from Spring Break.
