The #6 Julius Chambers Women's Basketball Cougars defeat #1 Apex Friendship 46-44 to claim another 4A NCHSAA Women's Championship.
Jazlyn Harris was selected as the Most Outstanding Player for Chambers, finishing with 14 points, two rebounds, and four steals.
The Cougars, Seini Hicks tallied 10 points,14 rebounds, 7 offensive rebounds and 3 assists on her way to being selected as the Kay Yow Most Valuable Player.
Amiaya Hall from Chambers was chosen as a 2022 4A Women’s Basketball Sportsmanship Award Winner.
The #8 West Charlotte Men's Basketball Lions defeated #5 Seventy-First, 83-75 to capture the 3A NCHSAA Men's Basketball Championship. This marks the team's seventh state win in basketball in school history, and their first championship in class 3A; all six previous wins were in class 4A.
West Charlotte's Landon King had 25 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals on his way to claiming the Charlie Adams Most Valuable Player in the 3A title game. West Charlotte's Chancellor Morrow chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds with four blocks and was chosen as the Lions most Outstanding Player in the game.
Chad Traylor from West Charlotte was awarded a 2022 3A Men’s Basketball Sportsmanship Award.
CMS Athletics had strong representation in 4A NCHSAA Men's Basketball post-season play with North Meckenburg and JC Chambers going deep into last rounds before meeting eventual 4A Men's Champion, Weddington.
North Mecklenburg overcame Myers Park in the 4th round, 91-73 before losing to WHS 69-72 in the Regionals.
Chambers lost a hot contest to Weddington in the 3rd round , 58-56.
CMS Athletes were ubiquitious in the 2022 4A NCHSAA Swim/Dive Championships.
NCHSAA reports that the Myers Park women brought home the program’s first state championship since 1976, edging Green Hope 264-216 on the strength of the team’s depth with numerous Mustangs winning medals in championship heats. Maya Gendzel from Myers Park was a Sportsmanship Award winner for the 2022 4A Women’s State Championship.
Also notable for CMS Athletics, Grace Rainey from Hough bests her own 4A State Meet Record time in the 100 Breaststroke touching the wall in 1:00.97 just slightly ahead of her own mark of 1:01.05 from a year ago in the state meet.
Hough junior, Dean Treanor wins 4A Men's Diving Championship gold with a score of 432.15 improving from last year's 3rd place finish.

A single point separated Myers Park and Green Hope in the 4A NCHSAA Men's Swim/Dive team standings. The two teams were neck and neck throughout the meet, the deciding race coming down to the final event, 400 Free Relay where Green Hope prevailed.
Graham Hohnbaum from Myers Park was chosen as a Sportsmanship Award winner for the 2022 4A Men’s State Championship.
The 4A NCHSAA Women’s Indoor Track Most Outstanding Performer was Akala Garrett from Harding University High. She won the 55 Meter Hurdles in 7.88 seconds and brought home the victory in the 500 Meter Run in 1:14.37. She also finished second in the 300 Meter Dash, clipping the line in 39.94 seconds.
CMS Athletes were hugely successful at the 4A NCHSAA Wrestling Championship with four wrestlers taking home 1st place gold including:
Cameron Stinson of Mallard Creek (113 Lb), Noah Luna of Providence (120 Lb), Eli Murray of Lake Norman (132 Lb), and Carson Floyd of Lake Norman (285 Lb).
