AK SPORTS REPORT

(October 19-24, 2015)

Last week was a great week at AK, capped off by a great Football Friday night at the Castle!  What an amazing home crowd and student section supporting our Knights on to victory over rival Providence!  Also, a special thank you to our AK Athletic Booster Club and many volunteers for all of their hard work organizing and executing another successful BBQ!  Many hours of hard work and planning went into the event and the AK community appreciates your efforts!  GO KNIGHTS!!

 

  • FOOTBALL: (AK Football had a great week 9 of the Football season!  JV started it off by winning their 3rd straight w/ a 41-14 victory over Providence on Thursday.  Varsity played w/ great emotion and came together to finish strong, scoring the last 17 points of the contest to beat rival Providence 26-17 on Military Appreciation night!  The Knights improved to 3-1 in the SoMeck 8 and moved into 2nd place in the standings.)

    • 10/23 – Varsity @ Berry (7:00 PM)

 

  • VOLLEYBALL: (AK Volleyball finished regular season play with a strong 12-2 conference record to take 2nd Place outright in the SoMeck 8.  The JV Lady Knights completed their season with a perfect 19-0 record!  Great job Lady Knights!  Varsity starts post-season play this week with the SoMeck 8 Conference Tournament.  Good luck ladies!)

  • MEN’S SOCCER: (AK Men’s Soccer improved to 8-2 in the SoMeck 8 after two dominating conference wins last week.  They look to keep things rolling with a big road game @ Providence to start off the week.  Let’s Go Knights!)

    • 10/ 21 - @ Home vs. Berry

  • WOMEN’S TENNIS:(AK Women’s Tennis began post-season play by hosting the SoMeck 8 Conference Tournament.  The Lady Knights had a great showing, with Hailey Simon repeating as the SoMeck 8 Singles Champion and the Doubles team of Olivia Hooks and Alba Eceiza taking runner-up and also qualifying for Regionals!  The Lady Knights also won the tiebreak draw for seeding in the conference and will enter the NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs as the #1 seed from the SoMeck 8!  Also, AK hosts the NCHSAA 4A West Regionals Individual Tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Castle Courts…..Good luck Lady Knights!)

    • 10/23 – Day 1 NCHSAA 4A West Individual Tournament @ AK (2:00 PM)
    • 10/24 – Day 2 NCHSAA 4A West Individual Tournament @ AK (9:00 AM)

 

  • WOMEN’S GOLF: (AK Women’s Golf had a week off from competition after opponents backed out late from the match this past Wednesday.  The Lady Knights will be back in action competing in the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Tournament on Monday.  Best of luck ladies!

  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: (The AK Men’s & Women’s Cross Country teams will look for conference championships at this Thursday’s SoMeck 8 Conference Championship Meet.  Best of luck to all our AK runners, as they’ve worked very hard this season preparing for this moment!)
    • 10/22 – SoMeck 8 Conference Meet @ McAlpine Park (4:00 PM)

 

 

IMPORTANT NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Winter Sports Pre-Season Parent/Eligibility Meeting:
    • This mandatory meeting for parents and student-athletes participating in a Winter sport will be on Monday, November 9th @ 6:00 PM in the Main Gym.

 

  • Fall College Signing Event:
    • The Fall signing period is quickly approaching.  AK Athletics will honor student-athletes that have committed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the inter-collegiate level with a ceremony immediately after school on Thursday, November 12th (2:30 PM in the AK auditorium).  Please contact your head coach or Coach Knab if you wish to participate.
