AK Sports Report (October 26-31)

The last week of October is upon us, meaning Fall sports is in the home stretch and post-season play is in full swing for some of our AK teams.  Also, we are just over a week away from the official start date for Winter sports!  Please see below for the busy upcoming schedule this week for Fall sports and some important announcements for the beginning of Winter sports.  Have a great week AK!


  • FOOTBALL: (AK Football held off Berry in a wild ending (44-42 Final) to improve to 4-1 in the SoMeck 8 Conference, setting up a huge showdown this coming Friday vs. Charlotte Catholic in the Home regular season finale and SENIOR NIGHT for Football and Cheer!  We need a monster home crowd to support our Knights!!)
    • 10/29 – JV @ Charlotte Catholic (6:00 PM)
    • 10/30 – Varsity @ Home vs. Charlotte Catholic (7:00 PM—SENIOR NIGHT @ Half-time)


  • VOLLEYBALL: (AK Volleyball began play in the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs with a hard fought 3-0 win @ Home over Hopewell in the 1st Round this past Saturday.  The Lady Knights travel to Northwest Guilford in the 2nd Round on Tuesday.  Let’s Go Knights!)
    • 10/27 – @ Northwest Guilford (6:00 PM) – 2nd Round NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs
    • 10/29 – vs. TBD (TBD) – 3rd Round NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs
    • 10/31 – vs. TBD (TBD) – 4th Round NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs


  • MEN’S SOCCER: (AK Men’s Soccer stands at 9-2-1 in the SoMeck 8 heading into the last week of the regular season after a tie @ Providence and win over Berry this past week.  Two huge conference matches are on the slate to finish the regular season this week, including South Meck @ Home this Wednesday on SENIOR NIGHT!  Good luck Knights!)
    • 10/26 – @ Charlotte Catholic
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM
    • 10/28 - @ Home vs. South Meck (SENIOR NIGHT)
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM


  • WOMEN’S TENNIS: (AK Women’s Tennis started the week by advancing in the NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs with a 6-0 1st Round win over Grimsley!  AK then hosted the 4A West Regional Individual Tournament on Friday and Saturday, in which Hailey Simon placed 3rd in Singles and qualified for the 4A State Tournament.  Way to go Lady Knights!)
    • 10/27 – @ RJ Reynolds (4:00 PM) – 2nd Round NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs
    • 10/30-31 – NCHSAA 4A State Individual Tournament @ Millbrook Exchange Park (Raleigh, NC)


  • WOMEN’S GOLF: (AK Women’s Golf continued their phenomenal season by finishing Runner-Up at the NCHSAA 4A West Regional this past Monday.  The team has qualified for the 4A State Tournament this Monday and Tuesday in Pinehurst, NC.  Best of luck to our Lady Knight golfers!)
    • 10/26-27 – NCHSAA 4A State Tournament @ Pinehurst No. 6 (Pinehurst, NC)


  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: (The AK Cross Country teams competed in the SoMeck 8 Championship Meet this past week, with the Women’s team taking 2nd Place and the Men’s team taking 3rd Place.  For the Men, Ryan Kendall and Carson Philbin led the way, placing in the top 12 and earning All-Conference honors.  For the Women, Lexie Davis and Emma Weise placed 3rd and 4th overall, while Josie Jordan and Katie Gibbons also finished strong and in the top 12, giving the Lady Knights 4 of the top 12 finishers and earning All-Conference honors.  The AK runners compete in the 4A West Regionals this week…..good luck Knights!)
    • 10/27 – Regional “B” JV Only Meet @ McAlpine Park (4:30 PM)
    • 10/31 – NCHSAA 4A West Regional Meet @ McAlpine Park (10:30 AM)




  • Winter Sports official start date is Monday, November 2nd.  Tryouts for all AK Winter teams will begin on this date.  The 2015-2016 AK Athletic Pre-Participation Packet must be completed in full (with current sports physical) to be eligible to tryout.


  • Winter Sports Pre-Season Parent/Eligibility Meeting:
    • This mandatory meeting for parents and student-athletes participating in a Winter sport will be on Monday, November 9th @ 6:00 PM in the Main Gym.


  • Fall College Signing Event:
    • The Fall signing period is quickly approaching.  AK Athletics will honor student-athletes that have committed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the inter-collegiate level with a ceremony immediately after school on Thursday, November 12th (2:30 PM in the AK auditorium).  Please contact your head coach or Coach Knab if you wish to participate.
