AK Sports Report (November 2-7)

Hopefully everyone had a great Halloween weekend and got some extra rest with the time change, as November, Fall Sports playoffs, and the beginning of Winter Sports are here!  Good luck to all our Fall teams competing this week and good luck to all student-athletes during tryouts for Winter Sports.  Make sure you have all required paperwork completed and turned in to your coach or you will not be eligible to participate in tryouts!  GO KNIGHTS!!


  • FOOTBALL: (AK Football fell to Charlotte Catholic on JV and Varsity this past week.  We were proud to honor our Class of 2016 Seniors for Football, Cheer, and Student Athletic Trainers at Friday’s game.  This week brings the last week of the regular season, with the Varsity Knights traveling to South Meck with the opportunity to claim the #2 seed from the SoMeck 8 Conference for the NCHSAA playoffs with a win.  Let’s Go Knights!!)
    • 11/5 – JV @ Home vs. South Meck (6:00 PM)
    • 11/6 – Varsity @ South Meck (7:00 PM)


  • VOLLEYBALL: (AK Volleyball fell short in the 2nd Round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs, losing a highly competitive 4 set match @ Northwest Guilford.  Congratulations on a fine season Lady Knights!)


  • MEN’S SOCCER: (AK Men’s Soccer finished the regular season with a 9-3-2 SoMeck 8 record, tied for 2nd Place.  The Knights had a strong season finale on Senior Night, battling unbeaten South Meck to a 0-0 tie.  JV finished their season with a 10-1-5 record and in 1st Place in the SoMeck 8!  Varsity will enter the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs this week as the #3 seed from the conference due to the tiebreaker.  Brackets will be released on Monday to see where our Knights will travel to in Round 1.  Good luck Knights!)

    • 11/7 – 2nd Round NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs @ TBD (TBD)


  • WOMEN’S TENNIS: (AK Women’s Tennis defeated previously unbeaten RJ Reynolds in the 2nd Round of the NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs this past week 5-1!  The Lady Knights are won of 8 teams still playing in 4A and will travel to TC Roberson for the 3rd Round on Monday!  Keep it up Lady Knights!)
    • 11/2 - @ TC Roberson (3:00 PM) – 3rd Round NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs
    • 11/4 - @ TBD (4:00 PM) – 4th Round (Regionals) NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs
    • 11/7 - @ Burlington Tennis Center – Burlington, NC (12:30 PM) – State Finals NCHSAA 4A Dual Team Playoffs


  • WOMEN’S GOLF: (AK Women’s Golf finished a great season by placing 6th Place overall as a team at the NCHSAA 4A State Golf Tournament last Monday and Tuesday.  Congratulations to the ladies and Coach Whitney on another awesome season (SoMeck 8 Champs and 4A West Regional Runners-Up).  Way to go Lady Knights!


  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: (The AK Cross Country teams had a great day this past Saturday at the NCHSAA 4A West Regional Meet.  The women’s team place 4th overall, qualifying for the 4A State Championship Meet as a team!  Emma Weise placed 9th overall and earned All-Region honors as an individual.  On the men’s side, our Knights placed 8th overall as a team.  Ryan Kendall finished 4th overall to earn All-Region honors and qualify for States as an individual.  Good luck @ States this coming Saturday Knights!)
    • 11/7 – NCHSAA 4A State Championship Meet @ Redmon Park (Kernersville, NC – TBD)




  • Winter Sports official start date is Monday, November 2nd.  Tryouts for all AK Winter teams will begin on this date.  The 2015-2016 AK Athletic Pre-Participation Packet must be completed in full (with current sports physical) to be eligible to tryout.


  • Winter Sports Pre-Season Parent/Eligibility Meeting:
    • This mandatory meeting for parents and student-athletes participating in a Winter sport will be on Monday, November 9th @ 6:00 PM in the Main Gym.


  • Fall College Signing Event:
    • The Fall signing period is quickly approaching.  AK Athletics will honor student-athletes that have committed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the inter-collegiate level with a ceremony immediately after school on Thursday, November 12th (2:30 PM in the AK auditorium).  Please contact your head coach or Coach Knab if you wish to participate.
