AK Sports Report (October 2-7)

October is upon us, which means a very busy month ahead!  Not only will post-season competition begin for many Fall sports in the coming weeks, but the end of the month brings the official beginning of the Winter sports season.  Below is the schedule for the upcoming week.  Good luck and have a great week AK!  GO KNIGHTS!  PROTECT THE CASTLE!


  • FOOTBALL:  AK Varsity Football continued to compete hard through one of the toughest schedules in the state, battling a tough West Meck team into the 2nd half before falling in SoMeck 7 play.  The Knights have a big road match-up against rival South Meck this week, looking for a big first victory of the season.  Keep fighting hard Knights!
  • JV Football fell to a strong West Meck team and now stand 1-1 in SoMeck 7 play.  The young Knights look for a big win @ Home this week against rival South Meck!
    • 10/5 – JV @ Home vs. South Meck (6:00 PM)
    • 9/28 – Varsity @ South Meck (7:00 PM)


  • VOLLEYBALL:  AK Volleyball improved to 7-2 in SoMeck 7 Conference play with two straight set victories over conference opponents this past week (both Varsity and JV!).  The Lady Knights look to keep that momentum rolling in two more conference matches this coming week.  Good luck ladies!
    • 10/3 – @ Home vs. Harding
      • JV – 4:00 PM
      • Varsity – 5:30 PM
    • 10/4 - @ Home vs. Charlotte Catholic (SENIOR NIGHT)
      • JV – 4:00 PM
      • Varsity – 5:30 PM

  • MEN’S SOCCER:  AK Men’s Soccer had a strong week, getting two JV/Varsity sweeps in conference play.  Varsity improved to 4-2 in the SoMeck 7 and have one huge match-up ahead this week @ rival Providence.  Good luck men!
    • 10/5 – @ Providence
      • JV – 4:30 PM
      • Varsity – 6:00 PM


  • WOMEN’S TENNIS: AK Women’s Tennis took care of business in their only match this past week, defeating conference opponent Berry 9-0 to improve to 9-2 in SoMeck 7 play with one match in conference play remaining.  The Lady Knights also host a non-conference match this Monday for Senior Night!  Best of luck Lady Knights!!
    • 10/2 - @ Home vs. Weddington (4:00 PM) – SENIOR NIGHT
    • 10/3 - @ Olympic (4:00 PM)


  • WOMEN’S GOLF:  AK Women’s Golf had a week off from matches this past week, but have a big week ahead in SoMeck 7 Conference competition.  First, the Lady Knights take on Providence in a showdown for 1st Place in the conference, followed by another conference match vs. Olympic on Senior Night.  Good luck this week Lady Knights……go low!
    • 10/3 – vs. Providence @ Providence C.C. (3:00 PM)
    • 10/5 – vs. Olympic @ Providence C.C. (3:30 PM) – SENIOR NIGHT


  • MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY:  The AK Cross Country competed in a regular season meet @ Weddington this past week, and have one of the biggest meets of the year coming up this Saturday in the Wendy’s Invitational.  Good luck to all our Knights runners this weekend!

  • AK Athletic Boosters BBQ Fundraiser
    • It’s back!!  The Annual AK Athletic Boosters BBQ is up and running.  All AK athletic teams participate in this annual fundraiser, with all funds raised going towards helping the athletic boosters meet the needs and wishes of all our teams and student-athletes.

    • NCHSAA Scholarships:
      • ATTN Senior Student-Athletes!  The NCHSAA offers many opportunities for different scholarships they award.  The application period has begun for many of them.  Please visit the below link to the NCHSAA web-site if you are interested in learning more about the scholarships available and to apply.


  • Wendy’s High School Heisman – ATTN Senior student-athletes, link provided below to apply.  Our school winner will represent AK onto the State Level and potentially move on to the Regional and National Level.  Please contact your head coach or athletic director if any questions:


  • Liz Murray Scholarship (sponsored by the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club) – ATTN Senior student-athletes, link provided below to apply.  The Hood Hargett Breakfast Club awards a monthly scholarship throughout the school year.  Once your application is submitted, it will remain in the applicant pool for each month for the remainder of the school year.  AK has a strong history of winners…..let’s keep it going!  Click link below for more information and contact the athletic director if any questions:
