AK SPORTS REPORT

(December 11-16, 2017)

Hard to believe, but we have only one full week of school left until the short week before Winter Break!  The Knights Winter Sports teams continue to excel in what has been a strong start to the season.  All the Winter teams are in full competition with a busy week ahead.  Keep competing hard Knights and finish these final few weeks of 2017 strong!  GO KNIGHTS!  PROTECT THE CASTLE!

 

WINTER SPORTS

  • MEN’S BASKETBALL:  AK Men’s Basketball opened up SoMeck 7 Conference play with two solid wins, including a thrilling last second Home victory over West Meck on Friday night.  A big week lies ahead for the Knights with two more conference match-ups on the road, starting with at rival South Meck on Tuesday.  Good luck this week men!

    • 12/15 – @ Harding
      • JV – 4:30 PM

  • WOMEN’S BASKETBALL:  AK Women’s Basketball dominated their first two conference opponents to open up SoMeck 7 Conference play this past week.  The Lady Knights also have two more conference opponents on the slate this week, with a huge game at rival South Meck on Tuesday.  Get to South Meck early Kastle Krazies and get loud to support our Lady Knights!

  • WRESTLING:  AK Wrestling improved to 2-1 in SoMeck 7 dual match competition with a big road victory of South Meck this past week.  The Knights will look to improve to 3-1 with another road conference match-up @ Harding this week.  AK also had a solid showing at the Mecklenburg County Tourney @ Olympic over the weekend, with top finishers for the Knights being: Daniel Trainor (4th Place – 120 lbs.), Eric Gonzalez (Champ – 132 lbs.), Matthew Herbert (4th Place – 145 lbs.), Clay Spurlin (Runner-Up – 152 lbs.), and Ishmael Williams (3rd Place – 195 lbs.).  The Knights will be back in tournament action this weekend at the Pirate Invitational @ Porter Ridge.  Good luck this week!
    • 12/13 – Dual Match @ Harding (6:30 PM)
    • 12/16 – Pirate Invitational @ Porter Ridge (9:00 AM)

 

  • SWIM & DIVE:  AK Swim & Dive is back in the pool this week for competition, hosting our first Home swim meet against two non-conference opponents on Monday night.  The Divers will also be back in competition with a meet at Huntersville Aquatics on Saturday.  Best of luck to our Aqua Knights in the water this week!
    • 12/11 – Swim Meet vs. Butler, East Meck @ Providence Pool (6:00 PM)
    • 12/16 – Dive Meet @ Huntersville Aquatics (9:00 AM)

 

  • INDOOR TRACK & FIELD:  AK Indoor Track & Field got their season started this past weekend at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem competing in the High School Kickoff meet.  The Knights had many strong performances and complete results can be viewed at the link below.  AK will compete in their first polar bear meet @ Providence this Wednesday before traveling back to the JDL Fast Track this Saturday.  Good luck this week AK runners!
    • 12/13 – Polar Bear Meet @ Providence (3:30 PM)
    • 12/16 – Meet @ JDL Fast Track, Winston-Salem (9:00 AM)

    • NCHSAA Scholarships:
