The Myers Park Varsity and JV Cheerleaders have had a very successful season so far! While attending the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Camp in August the teams brought home a collective 7 first place trophies, 5 All-Americans, and came away with the Program Leadership Award!
Their season is off to a great start and they are excited to have recently completed their 2nd Annual Myers Park Junior Cheerleading Camp where they hosted 150 children from the local community for a camp day on Saturday, September 13. The camp ended with a fantastic halftime performance at the September 19th Varsity football game against North Meck. It was definitely the best show in town that night!
Coaches Karen, Kristin, and Ashley are very proud of the progress that the teams are making this season and everyone is looking forward to supporting our football team the rest of the way this season, the Cheerleading State Championships on November 15th, and then getting an exciting basketball season underway!
After a wildly successful first year, the Myers Park High School Cheerleading Program is excited to announce its second annual Junior Cheerleading Camp on Saturday, September 13 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM at the Myers Park High School Football Field! Children ages 5-12 are welcome to register for a fun-filled day alongside the Myers Park High School Cheerleaders. Campers will learn cheers and chants, work on motion and jump technique, and learn dance choreography that they will perform as a halftime routine at the September 19 varsity home football game at Myers Park High School!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWEST JV CHEERLEADING TEAM MEMBERS!
There will be a mandatory new JV parent and cheerleader meeting on Tuesday, November 19th at 5:00PM in the Myers Park Gym. The first day of practice, (once all eligibility paperwork is completed), will be on Monday, November 25th from 3:00PM - 5:00PM in the Myers Park Gym. We will size each new cheerleader for apparel that day and an order form will be sent home with your child after practice for you to look over. Please review it, decide which apparel pieces your cheerleader needs and then return it to the coach with a check at the JV basketball game on Tuesday, November 26th. All checks should be made out to “The Mustang Club.” We will do our absolute best to get you acclimated to the team as quickly as possible!
An informal JV Cheerleading tryout will be held this year for basketball season. Please see below for details:
WHAT: JV Cheerleading tryout for basketball season
WHO: Current 9th and 10th graders ONLY
WHEN: Saturday, November 16 12:00PM-3:00PM
WHERE: MPHS Main Gym
ATTIRE: Black shorts (no denim), white shirt (no logos) and athletic shoes. Hair needs to be pulled up into a ponytail. You may wear a green or white bow in your hair if you'd like, though it is not required.
Potential cheerleaders need to arrive at 11:30AM to register and begin stretching so that we can start promptly at 12:00PM. Potential cheerleaders will learn a cheer and dance from 12:00PM-1:30PM. From 1:30PM-2:00PM, potential cheerleaders will have a chance to review tryout material, ask questions and warm up jumps and tumbling. The official tryout will begin promptly at 2:00PM and conclude at 3:00PM (tryouts may run longer or shorter due to the number of potential cheerleaders trying out, please be flexible). Potential cheerleaders will tryout in groups of 2 and will perform the previously learned cheer and dance, as well as a series of jumps and a best standing and running tumbling skill. Tryout results will be posted to this website by Monday evening, November 18. This will allow coaches enough time to check each potential cheerleader's eligibilty for the season (did they have at least a 2.0 GPA and 85% attendance last semester?).
PLEASE NOTE: All students trying out must bring a copy of the following documents with them in order to be eligible to tryout. Failure to bring both of these documents will disqualify you from trying out:
If a potential cheerleader makes the team, more paperwork will need to be filled out at that time to make them eligible for the season. The coaches will help you with that process.
A copy of our 2013-2014 Program Information that was distributed before this year's August tryout is available under the "Cheer Forms" tab below. We highly suggest that you read over this as a family to see if being a Myers Park Cheerleader is truly for you. A copy of the tryout score sheet can also be downloaded from the "Cheer Forms" tab below. Please review it so you can be prepared for the tryout.
IMPORTANT: If you make the team, there are costs involved with being a Myers Park Cheerleader. Those costs include, but may not be limited to:
