Originally from Ansonia, CT; BA from Catawba College; MAEd K-12 from Tusculum College; AT for Wilkes County Schools 1999-2001; Sports Med Teacher/Head AT at South Meck High 2001-2007; Sports Med Teacher/Head AT - MCHS 2007-2013 & Asst. AT 2013-present. Married to Charlie and have one daughter - Madelyn age 11.
COVID-19 has impacted my by learning to appreciate the opportunity to touch the lives of kids everyday - especially now that we are absent from school. I also have realized that we take so much in our lives for granted.
My time has been spent trying to navigate online learning for Sports Med, networking with colleagues and doing my best to stay connected to my students! I’m also enjoying spending time with Charlie and Maddy.
As a teacher & AT at MCHS my one wish would be that we all get through this and come out healthy and more thankful for the unique opportunity that we have in this life to help shape the lives of young people. I really miss our athletes and students!!

Coach Barry aspires to continue growing the wrestling and XC programs, creating opportunities for all students to enhance their high school experience through participation in athletics. More than anything, Coach Barry wants student athletes to have fun while learning the discipline, fitness, and commitment required to build championship teams and dynamic citizens.
So far, COVID-19 has impacted my family by requiring us to stay home together. My wife and I are both teachers, and we have two boys who are elementary school students. Because we are teachers, we are fortunate to be able to work from home and be paid while caring for our boys. One of our older daughters was laid off, and we’re sad that we can’t spend time with her and her sisters because they are grown up with their own families.
We have spent our time finding this new normal and developing routines. Every day we read, write, create art, exercise, and play. Although we’re cooped up, it’s nice to be flexible in our schedule, especially shutting off the alarm clocks / reminders to work through a schedule at our own pace.
If I had one wish, it would be for the scientists to quickly develop a vaccine, and that we subsequently learn from life-stopping challenges like this. There’s no doubt that, if our eyes are open, we’re seeing what things are most important.
