May Community Spotlight – Rose Transportation

Rose Transportation was hired by the US Military this April to take Ft. Bragg Medical Personnel to New York to assist with the COVID-19 crisis. Andy Thompson, owner and native Charlottean, said, "Safety is our number one focus in our community."

Andy and Jeff Thompson are the sons of H.A. Thompson, former midday show host on WBT Radio. Andy, who has been a key supporter of the AKABC annual Golf Tournament for years, went to school at East Meck and has been married to his wife, Jennifer for 20 years. They have 2 adopted children who are now in high school themselves.  Andy tells us, "Rose Transportation and Charters has been in business for 35 years.  My father started the business in 1985 while still on WBT radio and I drove on the weekends while still in high school."

When asked about how the Coronavirus has affected his business, Andy explains, "During the quarantine, Rose has gone from Sold Out to No business during what is typically our busy season.  Our military charters are the only trips that have taken place in the last 2 months."

Rose Transportation is hopeful that school trips and other business will return soon in a healthy and safe way.  "All our vehicles are cleaned and thoroughly sanitized before and after each trip."

So how did the Rose name come about? Andy remembers, "The Thompson family chauffeuring service started as Rolls Limousine Limited.  But soon after, Rolls-Royce accused the company of violating their trademark.  So we re-named it Rose after the red rose our drivers hand to new brides."

Thank you Rose Transportation for all you have done for our student athletes, our community, and your support of our NC health care professionals as they traveled to New York to help in the pandemic.

AK SPORTS REPORT

(May Updates, 2020)

The AK Sports Report is back after a hiatus from the COVID-19 impact.  We hope that AK Nation is doing well and staying safe during these times.  It has obviously been a challenging time with ever-changing and unsure information, but we wanted to provide some updates as we look to close out the 2019-2020 AK Athletic year while planning for 2020-2021.  Information and decisions are fluid during this time, but we will continue to provide weekly updates as appropriate through the remainder of the school year as final decisions are made concerning Summer and Fall COVID-19 sports regulations.

Hang in there Knights and don’t hesitate to reach out to AK Athletics for any questions or concerns you may have.  We are thinking about you and here for you……we miss our Knights!
