AK Sports Report (Oct. 11-16, 2021)

By Brian Knab 10/10/2021, 9:15pm EDT

MISSION:  TO PROVIDE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS THAT PRODUCE A PRIDEFUL EXPERIENCE FOR ALL AND PREPARE STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE IN LIFE.

AK SPORTS REPORT

(October 11-16, 2021)

This past week brought extremely saddening news for our AK Community.  Officer Julio Herrera passed away early last week and was AK’s one and only School Resource Officer since the school opened in 2006.  Words cannot describe or do justice for what Officer Herrera meant to our community.  He truly was a mentor and role model for so many of our students and the AK faculty that were blessed to work with him.  From our AK Athletics Family……we already miss you so much Officer Herrera.  You were always there for us and one of our greatest supporters……always encouraging and motivating our student-athletes with advice and words of encouragement before big games.  Checking in on our coaching staff after tough losses or just to talk shop.  Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and loved ones.  Rest in peace to our friend……a Knight forever!

Please consider supporting Officer Herrera’s family during these difficult times.  A GoFundMe page has been set up to provide financial support for funeral and hospital expenses……..visit link here: https://gofund.me/e726ed21

Meanwhile, the Fall Sports season continues to see the stakes pick up.  Post-season begins this week for Women’s Golf and Women’s Tennis, while others enter the last week of the regular season and begin post-season next week.  Stay focused and keep working hard Knights!
