2015 Western Regional Champions!
The AK men's basketball team flew under the radar all year to a 23-6 record. Let by seniors David Kasanganay and Harper Hendricks, the Knights made a magical run to the Sweet Sixteen. It was the Knight's fifth time making the Sweet Sixteen and the first time the Knights did not advance to the Elite Eight when making it this far.
The Knights won the conference tournament in an epic game on a buzzer beater by David Kasanganay. The shot set off a frenzy in the Kastle in which the students stormed the court and celebrated the championship.
AK won 20 games for the 6th time in school history, and the fourth time in six years (2013, 2014, 2015, and 2018). The Knights will return 11 players next year.
AK is 13-4 after playing over Christmas and into January. The Knights won the Hickory Tavern/Chick-fil-a Blakeney shoot out before Christmas by defeating Covenant Day and Metrolina Christian.
The Knights then won the Ashbrook Holiday Hoopfest by defeating East Meck, Vance, and Hopewell.
AK will be back in action on Friday night at home vs. Providence.
The AK Knights are currently 7-1 and 3-0 in the league. The Knights will play a key conference game at Harding on Friday night.
The AK men's basketball team won Friday night against Myers Park in dramatic fashion. Sophomore Luke Stankavage knocked down a 3 at the buzzer to tie the game and take it to OT. The Knights then outscored the Mustangs 13-3 in OT. Stankavage had 19 points to lead the Knights, followed by David Kasanganay with 17 and Christian Pickens had 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Knights are 2-0 on the young season.
AK opened the season with a win at Marvin Ridge on Tuesday night. David Kasanganay had a career high 29 points. Christian Pickens picked up a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Harper Hendricks and Luke Stankavage each chipped in with 11 points. The knight play Myers Park at home on Friday.
David Kasangany will be headed to the Naval Academy next season. The senior co-captain committed to the Midshipman over the weekend on his official visit. "I could not be more proud of David. He has worked really hard and now will be rewarded by achieving his dream of playing D1 basketball," said Coach Craft.
