Charlotte Observer All-Observer Awards:
Sarah Perkinson, Myers Park, Sr.: All-state forward was one of the most dynamic offensive players in the state with 22 goals, 12 assists this season. She finished as Myers Park second all-time leading scorer with 55 goals in her career.
Lyle Deschamps, Myers Park, So.Second-team all-state selection was a major playmaker for the Mustangs with nine goals and six assists this season.
Ella Page, Myers Park, Jr.: The all-conference midfielder had a goal and four assists this season.
Sarah Minges, Myers Park, Sr.The Davidson College commit was an all-state defender who also got forward for seven goals.
Jennie Douglas, Myers Park, Sr.: Wittenberg College commit had 14 shutouts, 39 saves this season.

Players and Parents are invited to attend.  No siblings, please.

Please RSVP to Christie Hinshaw by October 27th for catering quantities.

Uniform Return

Please plan to return all uniforms at the November 3rd event.
Use a gallon ziploc bag marked with player NAME & JERSEY NUMBER.
All uniforms must be washed and dried before placed in bag.  Also, look for any stains and try to remove them.



Nominee for Observer Athlete of the Week 10.20.19

Sarah Minges, Myers Park field hockey: The Myers Park senior led the Mustangs to their 16th straight victory getting it done on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field in an 8-0 win at Providence, Oct. 15.

Minges, who plays center back, led the Myers Park defense to their 11th shutout in the last 16 games, as the Mustangs have outscored their opponents 104-5 in that same span.

Meanwhile, Minges also had a goal and two assists in the Providence win. 

Minges, a Davidson College commit, has six goals and six assists for Myers Park this season.

FIELD HOCKEY

Sarah Perkinson, Myers Park: The Myers Park senior scored the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 win over rival Charlotte Catholic Oct. 8.

Charlotte Catholic took the lead less than a minute into the game before Perkinson scored the next two goals to help Myers Park tally three unanswered, first half scores.

Perkinson also had one goal and one assist in a 10-0 win at Weddington, Oct. 10.

Perkinson has 16 goals and 11 assists for Myers Park (16-1) this season.

 


Charlotte Observer 'Prep Insider Blog' - Tuesday Fall Sports Round-Up 10.09.19

Sarah Perkinson (Myers Park girls’ field hockey): Perkinson’s two goals led the Mustangs past Charlotte Catholic 3-1.


Charlotte Observer Athletes of the Week 09.20.19

Jennie Douglas, Myers Park Field Hockey: The Mustangs’ senior goalkeeper had 19 saves in wins over rivals Providence Day and Charlotte Catholic last week.

Douglas had 12 saves in a 2-1 double overtime victory at Providence Day Sept. 10.

The next day, Douglas came up big again with seven saves in a 1-0 win at Charlotte Catholic.

Douglas has 31 saves this season for Myers Park (8-1), who has won seven straight games outscoring their opponents 38-4 in that same span.

Charlotte Observer Wednesday Round Up 09.12.19

Girls’ field hockey

Myers Park 1, Charlotte Catholic 0: Branson Walters scored on an assist from Sarah Perkinson, leading the Mustangs. Goalkeeper Jennie Douglas made seven saves in the shutout.


Charlotte Observer Athletes of the Week 09.11.19

Sarah Perkinson, Myers Park Field Hockey: The Myers Park senior forward scored the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes left in the game to lead the Mustangs past Charlotte Country Day, 3-1, Sept. 4.

Myers Park lost 1-0 at Charlotte Country Day Aug. 23.

Perkinson also netted two goals and had one assist in a 10-0 win at South Mecklenburg Sept. 3.

Perkinson leads Myers Park (6-1) with eight goals and six assists this season.

Sarah Perkinson (Myers Park girls’ field hockey): Perkinson scored all the goals for the Mustangs in their 3-0 victory over Providence Day.

Myers Park 3, Providence Day 0: Sarah Perkinson scored all the goals for the Mustangs (1-0). Caroline Pulliam added two assists, and goalkeeper Jennie Douglas made five saves.

Sarah Minges, Myers Park field hockey: The Myers Park senior has helped the Mustangs to a historic run as they have won the past three N.C. Field Hockey Association state championships.

This year, Minges (Davidson College commit) will have to play a larger role as defensive center midfielder (four goals, two assists last year) if Myers Park is going to have a chance to four-peat.


Charlotte Observer Prep Sports: Outstanding Performers 08.19.19

Outstanding performers

Lyle Deschamps (Myers Park girls’ field hockey): Deschamps scored three goals in four matches and was named Most Valuable Player in the Cary Academy Versus Cancer Tournament in Raleigh. Myers Park swept the event, going 4-0.

Field hockey

Myers Park beat Providence Day 2-1 in the finals and captured the championship in the weekend’s Cary Academy Versus Cancer Tournament.

The Mustangs opened with victories of 5-0 over East Chapel Hill and 3-0 over West Forsyth in pool play. Then they trounced Cary Christian 5-1 in the semifinals.

Lyle Deschamps, who scored three goals in the four matches, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Kate Hinshaw, who scored four goals, and Ella Page were picked for the all-tournament team.

Caroline Pulliam led Myers Park in scoring, with four goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Jennie Douglas had eight saves in the tournament.
