Practice and Attendance

  • Practice is essential for both the individual athlete & the team to be successful. By joining the track team, you are making a commitment to be on time & to participate in all practices.
  • Practices are Monday – Friday 2:30-4:30 p.m. (some events practice until 5:00 p.m.).
  • Athletes are expected to be at practice every day, including teacher workdays. Attendance is strongly encouraged during Spring Break, especially for athletes likely to qualify for our Conference and Regional Meets. The only excused absences are:
  1. Absence from school
  2. Illness
  3. Medical appointment
  4. Family emergency
  5. Pre-approved school associated conflict (e.g. tutoring)
  6. Official college visits

Athletes are expected to let their event coach know in advance of cases of 3, 5 and 6 and let Coach Hayes know in case 4, family emergency.

  • Missing practice for a job is an unexcused absence.
  • Missing practice for any non-academic reason is an unexcused absence, unless approved in advance by the athlete’s event coach.
  • Athletes have a maximum of two unexcused absences in one season. Beginning with the third unexcused absence, they will be held out of the next meet.
  • Athletes may not participate in another (MP) sport’s skill development program until the conclusion of Track Season (State Meet) per Myers Park Parent-Student Athletic Handbook.
  • Athletes should not participate on a rec team (e.g. soccer, basketball) during the track season.
  • Transportation should be arranged for pick up at the conclusion of practice.  No loitering on campus.
  • Any injuries, however small, are to be reported immediately to their event coach and trainer; athletes need to notify their event coach before visiting the training room.
  • Practices are for Myers Park athletes and their coaches only. Family and friends are encouraged to attend our meets.

Track Meets

  • Pack appropriate clothes, shoes, gear, snacks and fluids. Leave valuables at home.
  • You may not leave the meet before it is over without prior approval of your event coach – we highly encourage you to support all of your teammates competing at the meet.
  • Travel to and from scheduled away competitions will be by activity bus unless otherwise notified. Athletes are expected to keep the bus clean.
  • After notifying their coach, students may ride home with their own parent(s) from meets but not with another student and not with another student’s parents.
  • MP team uniforms are supplied. Any supplementary gear worn should be pre-approved by the coaching staff (tights, undershirts, etc.). There are strict uniform guidelines and failure to adhere to them may result in disqualification by meet officials.
  • Athletes are expected to participate in all meets for which they qualify. All athletes are required to attend Home Meets and Queen City Relays (April 4th) either to compete or volunteer. Non-competing athletes are encouraged to attend away meets and support their teammates.
