Jenna Thompson, South Mecklenburg, girls tennis, Fr.: The Sabres’ freshman has wasted no time, exploding onto the high school tennis scene. She is unbeaten in both singles’ and doubles’ play for South Mecklenburg (4-1) this season.

Thompson got her biggest win at South Meck, when she beat Myers Park senior, No. 1, Maddie Weber (her only loss to date), 6-3, 6-1 on Aug. 29. Thompson, 14, will turn 15 in December.

Thompson also has been selected to represent North Carolina in the Southern Cup, Sept. 19-21 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Only the top three players from nine, Southern states are selected.

Thompson is already listed as a five-star recruit, according to tennisrecruiting.net, and is ranked No. 1 in the state (juniors) for both the 14- and 16-year old age groups. She’s also ranked No. 13 in the southeast and No. 38 in the nation in her class (2020).

AK SPORTS REPORT

(May 25-30)

The 2014-2015 Athletic Year for the Knights has officially come to an end.  It was a great sports year for AK, and we want to thank all the student-athletes, parents, and the community for your support of our athletic programs!  Congratulations and Thank You to our entire Class of 2015 student-athletes on all your successes and for representing AK Athletics which such great class and leadership!  This week brings the last full week of regular class schedules!  Good luck to everyone finishing strong and preparing for the start of exams next week!

• Women’s Soccer: (AK Women’s Soccer controlled most of their 3rd Round Playoff game @ Ragsdale, but just weren’t able to capitalize with a goal, as they fell 1-0 to end their season.  Still, a great season for the Lady Knights and an exciting playoff run!!)

• Saturday, May 30th:  Heart of a Champion Day (Carolinas HealthCare System)
  • The annual Heart of a Champion Day, an event offering FREE SPORTS PHYSICALS for student-athletes
  • Buses will depart AK @ 11:45 a.m. and drop-off at the HOC site by 12:30 p.m.  Students must be registered and must ride the buses provided to be able to participate!  Buses should arrive back at AK between 2:30-3:00 p.m.

• Proctors for Final Exams:  Volunteers are needed to Proctor the EOCs and NC Final Exams!  Spring EOCs and NC Final Exams coming, and WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Proctors are needed for each day of testing. A proctor will assist the teacher in administering and monitoring the exams being given, and would need to be at school from 7:00 am - 12:00 pm. When an exam is finished, proctors are free to leave.
  Proctors MUST be approved CMS volunteers. To become an approved volunteer, please follow the directions below:
