August 12th, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) released an amended
2020-21 sports calendar. The amended sports calendar does not have traditional fall-winter-spring sport seasons, but instead lists official start dates for high school athletic teams in NC.

September 14th, CMS will begin a phased-in return to athletic activity on high school campuses. The return to CMS campuses for skill development workouts is a voluntary return for all student-athletes, not a required return.
School athletic directors and coaches will ensure precautions are followed on their campuses to assist in a safe return including the wearing of face coverings, conducting daily health screening questions and temperature checks of all participants, ensuring social distancing and mass gathering restrictions are met, and the sanitizing/disinfecting of facilities and equipment.
CMS will phase-in the return of teams in the sequenced order the NCHSAA is returning teams for the official start of their sport seasons, and in conjunction with athletic director input. Cross country and volleyball student-athletes will return on September 14th. Future dates and which teams to return will be communicated when CMS is confident our campuses are prepared for the next phase of student-athletes.
Moving forward, school athletic directors and coaches will communicate additional information to their student-athletes and families.
MIDDLE SCHOOL & K-8
Middle school and K-8 athletic activities are suspended through at least the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. A decision on second semester athletics will be determined and communicated at a later date.
